Re-strike engraving from the original plate (c. 1913). Printed on heavy woven paper and hand-colored. Plate size: 17 1/4 x 29
At the turn of the century, Littig & Company commissioned the accomplished artist Richard Rummell (1848-1924) to create watercolors of some of the nations most prestigious colleges. From these watercolors, copper-plates were engraved and a limited number of pulls (engravings) were distributed.
Unlike other college views of the period, the Rummell plates are glorious panoramic views of the entire campus. Art historians speculate that since the views appear to be drawn from an altitude of about 300 ft., it is likely that the artist worked from a balloon.
Arader Galleries has commissioned a master printer to pull a limited number of restrikes from these original copper-plates of college views. Printed on heavy wove paper, these college views are available uncolored or expertly hand-colored by the master printer.
Each view is available framed to full musuem specifcations in our classic black and gold frame for $850 or unframed for $600. Additional bespoke framing options are available upon request.
