George Morland (1763-1804) was an English painter renowned for his vivid depictions of rural life and landscapes heavily inspired by 17th century Dutch painting and Romanticism. Born in London, Morland was the son of artist Henry Robert Morland who introduced him to the world of painting at an early age. His work is celebrated for its detailed and realistic portrayal of country scenes, often featuring peasant life, animals, and rustic settings.

Morland’s career was characterized by prolific output, with numerous paintings and prints that gained popularity and commercial success - primarily for the engravers who published Morland’s work. However despite his artistic talent, Morland's life was marked by instability from alcholism and financial difficulties, finally concluding with his early death at the age of 41.
