This charming picture comes from Nuremberg publisher and engraver Johann Michael Seligmann’s (German, 1720-1762) acclaimed work of Sammlung verschiedener ausländischer un seltener Vögel (Collection of various foreign and rare birds) which included plates based on the works of English naturalists Mark Catesby and George Edwards. The text of ‘Sammlung’ is largely a translation of Edwards’ A natural history of uncommon birds and Gleanings of natural history. 

In the summer months, the American Redstart can be spotted in Central Park.
