Folio (19 x 13 4/8 inches). Letterpress title-page (early repaired tear near the gutter) and index. 15 engraved maps on 14 double-page sheets by J.H. Young after D.H. Vance, dated 1824-1826, all mounted on guards, and all with original hand-colour in full (some light browning and offsetting). Contemporary pale blue paper boards (rebacked to style with new printed paper label on the spine, endpapers renewed); modern blue cloth clamshell box.

First edition, folio issue, also published in a pocket edition the maps printed on very fragile paper. The maps are of : "North America", "United States", "Maine, New-Hampshire, & Vermont", "Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode-Island", "New York", "Pennsylvania, New Jersey, & Delaware", "Virginia and Maryland", N. and S. Carolina and Georgia", "Louisiana, Mississippi, & Alabama", Kentucky and Tennessee", "Missouri & Territory of Arkansas", "Florida and Elevation of Mountains" with "West Indies", and "South America".
