Redouté, Pierre-Joseph and Etienne Pierre Ventenat. Jardin de la Malmaison. Paris: L’imprimerie de Crapelet, 1803[-1805]. Bound in modern calf with earlier calf inset as panels. The gardens at Empress Joséphine’s Château de Malmaison were rich with rare plants, landscaped by distinguished botanists and horticulturists, including Redouté. To document this beauty, Joséphine commissioned Jardin de la Malmaison from botanist Ventenat with 120 stipple-engraved pochoir plates (finished by hand) after Redouté.
